Suppressive fire is effective, and sometimes required, in that game. If you're looking for a game where real infantry mechanics come into play, pick up ARMA II. If you can set up in a position where you're immune to flanking, you'd be golden, but how many maps is that really feasible on? It really has nothing to do with snipers (only regularly see snipers on Wasteland, Estate, and Derail), it just requires a more tactical approach.
